Was Absent Last Year, Grandma's Christmas House In Hungary Again Attracts Tourists From All Over Europe

JAKARTA - A Hungarian woman named Etelka Józsefné Kajdácsi - known locally as 'Aunt Eta', has re-opened her famous winter wonderland, after a year's absence.

Located in the small Hungarian town of Dabas, near Budapest, this house has become a lively attraction, drawing visitors from far and wide at Christmas and Winter.

Citing Euronews December 20, Aunt Eta started putting up decorations ten years ago, to entertain her grandchildren, but was unable to open her house and gardens last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now there are twice as many new decorations, including a life-size singing Santa, a glowing reindeer, and several kilometers of Christmas lights.

All of Aunt Eta's children, grandchildren and daughter-in-law worked for two weeks to make sure every last piece of jewelery was in its place. Their efforts were not in vain, as visitors came from France to admire the result.

Part of its charm is Aunt Eta herself, who welcomes all guests daily between 4pm and 8pm local time. In fact, He provides homemade food for free.

"I talk to people, asking where they are from," Aunt Eta told Euronews.

"It's nice to see the joy on people's faces when they realize that coming here from afar is so precious."

Not everything here is decorated. Every year, the family puts up an unadorned Christmas tree, so visitors can mark their visit by hanging their own decorations.

To note, the local city government has launched a train to help visitors get there, setting up a public parking lot right next to Aunt Eta's house, which is open to visitors until January 2, 2022.
