NTT Prosecutor Arrested By Task Force 53 For Disgraceful Actions Still Being Examined

JAKARTA - The Attorney General's Office confirmed the arrest of a prosecutor serving at the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) High Prosecutor's Office with the initials KM being arrested by the Attorney General's Task Force 53 on suspicion of committing a disgraceful act.

"The prosecutor on behalf of KM is indicated to have committed a disgraceful act," said Head of the Attorney General's Office for Legal Information, Leonard Eben Ezer Simanjuntak, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 21.

Leonard did not elaborate further on what disgraceful acts were committed by the KM attorney so that he was arrested by the Task Force 53 of the Attorney General's Office.

Prosecutor KM, an Echelon IV structural official at the NTT High Prosecutor's Office in the Tuak Daun Merah area, Kupang City, was arrested by Task Force 53 of the Attorney General's Office on Monday, December 20 at around 19.30 WIB.

After being arrested, the prosecutor KM was taken to Jakarta to undergo an examination and clarification regarding the veracity of the alleged public report.

"Furthermore, it will be submitted to the supervision of the Attorney General's Office," Leonard said.

Separately, the Head of the Legal Information and Public Relations Section of the East Nusa Tenggara Prosecutor's Office, Abdul Hakim, said that Prosecutor KM was arrested by the Task Force 53 team of the Attorney General's Office together with HT, a businessman, in a location in Kupang City.

In early October 2021, Task Force 53 of the Attorney General's Office also arrested a structural prosecutor at the Mojokerto District Attorney's Office.

The Adhyaksa official was arrested after Task Force 53 of the Attorney General's Office received a complaint report from the public on suspicion of abuse of authority.

Task Force 53 was formed by the Attorney General in 2020, with 31 members chaired by the Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence as Head of Task Force 53.

This task force unit of the Attorney General's Office has a "hotline" for reporting complaints against individual prosecutors or Prosecutors' employees who commit irregularities.

The formation of Task Force 53 of the Attorney General's Office is in line with President Joko Widodo's direction at the opening of the 2020 Indonesian Attorney General's Working Meeting.

In his directive, the President said that the AGO is the face of Indonesian law enforcement in the eyes of the public and internationally. Every behavior and action of every personnel of the Prosecutor's Office in law enforcement will be a benchmark for the face of the state in realizing the rule of law in the eyes of the world.
