8 Months Of Unpaid Salary, Honorary Teacher In North Maluku Holds Demo Calls For Head Of Education And Culture To Be Removed

MALUT - Dozens of teachers joined in the Association of Honorary Teachers of SMA-SMK in North Maluku (Malut) held a demonstration demanding the payment of their salaries for eight months.

Action Coordinator, North Maluku Honorary Teachers Association, Ridwan said, the arrears of honorary teacher salaries from 2019-2021 have not been paid by the North Maluku Education and Culture Office.

"We convey that for eight months the Education and Culture Office has not paid the arrears of honorary teachers' salaries, which total Rp. 18 billion," said Ridwan in Ternate, Antara, Monday, December 20.

Based on the points of the demands made by the honorary teacher, first, to urge the Governor of North Maluku to investigate and take action against the North Maluku Education Office, which has arrears the salaries of regional honorary teachers for eight months.

In addition, the masses asked the Governor of North Maluku to provide certainty about the remaining payment of arrears on the salaries of honorary teachers in 2019-2021.

They also asked the Governor of North Maluku to remove the Head of the Education and Culture Office of North Maluku Province, if he returned to making arrears for honorary teachers.

Ridwan revealed, during a meeting, the Governor had promised that in January 2022 the salaries of honorary teachers would be paid, if they were not paid, they would hold a follow-up action.

When meeting with Governor Abdul Gani Kasuba, several honorary teachers from junior high schools made the same demands regarding their unpaid salary allowances.

However, the governor admitted that he would instruct the regents and mayors to pay off their temporary teacher salaries as soon as possible. The honorary teachers who held the action walked to the North Maluku DPRD office, the North Maluku Education and Culture Office, to the North Maluku Provincial Governor's Office.
