Selayar Regency Government Sets Emergency Response Status Post 7.4 Magnitude Earthquake

JAKARTA - The Selayar Regency Government, South Sulawesi Province has declared an emergency response status after an earthquake measuring 7.4 that rocked the Flores Sea on Tuesday, December 14 at 10.20 WIB.

This earthquake shook the province of East Nusa Tenggara, as well as several areas in South Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi. The emergency response status in Selayar was issued by letter number 576/XII/Year 2021.

"The emergency response status in Selayar Regency lasts for 14 days, starting from December 14 to 27, 2021," said Plt. Head of BNPB Disaster Data and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in his statement, Wednesday, December 15.

"Temporary data recorded that 5 people were lightly injured and 1 seriously injured, while the damage to the housing sector was 345 units, with details of 134 heavily damaged and the rest lightly damaged," said Abdul Muhari.

BPBD also noted that a number of public facilities were affected, including 3 schools, 2 heavily damaged mosques, 1 heavily damaged village head office house, 1 people's port, 1 community hall and 2 lightly damaged warehouses.

There are more than 3,000 residents of Selayar Regency reported to have fled at a number of points. The total number of displaced residents amounted to 3,900 people spread over 17 evacuation points.
