JAKARTA - Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko admits he is worried about the language that is often used on social media that leaves the nation's character far behind.

"Languages in social media are far from the character of a nation that has good traditions and noble values. On this occasion I ask public relations personnel to contribute to straightening it all out," said Moeldoko when opening the 2021 National Public Relations Convention (KNH) virtually, in the building Bina Graha, Jakarta, Wednesday, December 13.

Moeldoko also reminded that Indonesian public relations personnel should not be caught in the vortex of disinformation, hoaxes, and slander. Moreover, nowadays sources of information come from various directions, and often just appear in the midst of the public without any checks and balances.

"This is a challenge that must be faced by PR friends, how to convey information quickly without leaving the norms and ethics," said Moeldoko.

On that occasion, Moeldoko also asked public relations personnel to play an active role in disseminating the discipline of health protocols to the public during Christmas and New Year.

"There will be extraordinary mobilization at Christmas and New Year. This is something we must take care of together. Perhumas is expected to make a positive contribution so that our country can get out of the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.

The 2021 National Public Relations Convention (KNH) held by the Indonesian Public Relations Association (Perhumas) carries the theme "The Spirit of Resilience and Optimism for Growing Indonesia".

This virtual KNH is expected to be a momentum for Indonesian public relations personnel to be able to hijack the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, by changing old work patterns and innovating using new ways.
