Joint Team To Arrest Youth Allegedly Involved In KKB In Yapen Papua

JAKARTA - A joint TNI-Polri team has arrested a young man named Adi Rawai, aged 27, who is suspected of being involved in a member of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in the Yapen Islands Regency, Papua.

Head of the Nemangkawi Operations Public Relations Task Force Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal said the arrest was made after a shootout occurred between KKB and members on Mount Impura, Ambaidiru Village, Kosiwo District, Yapen Islands Regency, Papua.

"When the team was on patrol, the team was fired upon twice by the KKB, so the team responded to the guess," said Kamal in a written statement quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 14.

Kamal explained, the results of the investigation by joint TNI-Polri personnel were known to have occurred in KKB militancy in Kampung Tua, Yapen Islands Regency.

From the results of the investigation, prevention was carried out by conducting joint patrols of the TNI-Polri, personnel from the 1709 Yawa Kodim and the Yapen Islands District Police on 8-9 December 2021.

While on patrol, KKB fired at the joint team. After being fired back, KKB fled to the forest and the team continued their patrol to the top of the mountain.

Arriving at the scene, the team found one perpetrator, Adi Rawai. Then conduct a search of the house/cottage that is used as the command headquarters.

"From the search, several pieces of evidence were confiscated," said Kamal, who is also the Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police.

A number of evidences were also secured in this arrest, namely one saw, one badik, one bayonet, three machetes, one homemade weapon, one red beret, one striped PDL pants, one striped PDL shirt, one long-sleeved shirt.

Then, a tactical shirt with a Morning Star flag, a pair of black jeans, a red clutch, a small Morning Star flag, a headband with a Morning Star flag, and a green cord.

Next, one pin with a bird picture, one booklet “Orasisuei”, one notebook, one referendum book, one family contribution card, one written book, and one small ruler.

Kamal said that the perpetrators are currently under intensive investigation by the Yapen Islands Police Criminal Investigation Unit investigators.

"There were no fatalities in the gunfight. Joint personnel of the TNI and Polri are still pursuing other perpetrators known to have the initials HM, PM and YR," said Kamal.

For his actions, the perpetrator was charged with a case of treason on the basis of LP/176/XII/2021/SPKT I/RES YAPEN on 9 December 2021.

There are also articles that are alleged to be Article 106 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 110 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.

"The perpetrators are threatened with life imprisonment or a maximum imprisonment of 20 years," said Kamal.
