MATARAM - A number of female police officers (polwan) from the Mataram City Police together with the Class III Women's Correctional Institution (Lapas) Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) conducted a raid on all inmates.
"This activity is an early detection before Christmas and the new year," said the Head of the Class III Mataram Women's Prison, Dewi Andriani after the raid was reported by Antara, Tuesday, December 14.
Dewi said as many as 20 officers from the Mataram Women's Prison along with seven policewomen raided the three blocks of prisoners in the prison. Before the raid was held, all officers were also checked, body and luggage.
"The inspection is to ensure that the officers conducting the raid are sterile from any objects," he said.
He mentioned the first block, specifically for tamping prisoners, elderly prisoners (WBP), and pregnant and lactating women. Next, the second block is inmates for drug cases, and the third block is inmates for general criminal cases.
"Alhamdulillah, from all the blocks that were raided, no prohibited items were found," he said.
The prohibited items, said Dewi, such as drugs, sharp weapons, cell phones, and any items that can be misused by the WBP, including needles and safety pins, must be secured.
"So, we searched the body and the room. We secured the needles and safety pins because indeed there is also training for the inmates, such as salon, sewing, and knitting, they came from there," he said.
Dewi said the number of prison inmates was 338 people. This number is still below the residential capacity of 370 people.
Approaching Christmas 2021 and New Year 2022, his party will continue to carry out strict supervision of WBP. This step is to ensure that conditions in the prison remain conducive.
"Later we will also write to the Mataram Police to carry out monitoring or contact points to prisons," said Dewi.
Meanwhile, Head of Public Relations of the Mataram Police, Iptu E. Anggraeni, who was also involved in the raid, explained that this activity was part of the synergy between the Police regarding maintaining security and order in the prison environment.
"We also carry out this activity in accordance with orders and directions from the Mataram Police Chief," said Anggraeni.
