BPBD Asks Residents To Stay Calm Even Though Mount Awu Is In Sangihe Level II

SANGIHE - Mount Awu in the Sangihe Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, has increased to level II (alert). The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) asked residents to remain calm.

"Information about the increase in the status of Mount Awu to level II or Alert must be handled calmly by the community," said Head of the Sangihe Regional Disaster Management Agency, Wandu Labesi di Tahuna, quoted by Antara, Monday, December 13.

According to him, in the current level II condition, the Sangihe BPBD provides socialization to the people who live on the slopes of Mount Awu if there is an increase in status.

"We provide socialization to people who live on the slopes of Mount Awu, steps that must be taken when there is an increase in Mount Awu activity," he said.

BPBD also appeals to the public not to believe in issues that have no clear source.

"BPBD Sangihe will provide information to the public if there is an increase in the activity of Mount Awu," said Wandu.

Information from the Geological Agency, which was signed by Eko Budi Lelono, explained that starting on December 12, 2021 at 12.00 WITA, the activity level of Mount Awu increased to level II alert so that people were prohibited from doing activities within a radius of 1 km near the summit of Mount Awu.

"The public and tourist visitors should not approach and move within a 1 km radius of the crater of the peak of Mount Awu," he said.
