BANJARMASIN - Around 200 houses of residents of South Daha, North Daha and West Daha Subdistricts, South Hulu Sungai (HSS) Regency, South Kalimantan were submerged due to high tides in the Nagara Watershed (DAS) and flooding from upstream rivers.

Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) HSS Syamsudin, said that since Friday, December 10 afternoon, the water has started to rise and has submerged the residents' settlements until now.

According to him, the increase in water was partly due to tidal water entering the Barito River and then heading to the watershed

This condition was exacerbated by the arrival of flooding from upstream areas such as North Hulu Sungai, Balangan, Tabalong, Hulu Sungai Tengah (HST) regencies as well as from HSS.

Until now, said Syamsudin, the water debit continues to increase, but it has not interfered with the daily activities of residents.

In addition to submerging residents' houses, the flood also submerged district and village roads in three sub-districts in the Daha area.

Based on BPBD HSS data, settlements in the South Daha area such as Baruh Jaya, Bayanan, Banua Hanyar, Tumbukan Banyu, Tambangan, Pihanin Raya, Habirau and Samuda villages were inundated with a height of 10-15 centimeters.

Then in North Daha District, namely in the village of Hakurung Dalam submerged with a height of 15-20 centimeters, and in West Daha District, precisely in Bajayau Village.

To avoid various diseases due to being in the water for too long and dangerous animals, residents build catwalks from wood or boards in their houses.

"Although the water has entered the house, no residents have evacuated, because residents can still carry out their activities as usual," he said.

BPBD urges people who have not been affected to always be vigilant by immediately securing valuables and electronics to higher ground.

In addition, residents are careful of dangerous animals that can enter the house at any time during high tide.

"As much as possible so that residents continue to look after each other and communicate with each other. We are grateful, volunteers at HSS who are always ready to help, especially in the Daha area," he said.

Currently, BPBD is still conducting data collection, coordinating with villages and sub-districts.
