JAKARTA - Transportation observer from the Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI) Djoko Setijowarno assesses that the BUMD PT Transjakarta does not need to be the bus operator.

It is known that the self-management unit of PT Transjakarta is one of the bus operators. This operator runs corridors 1 through 12.

Djoko said that it would be better if Transjakarta, as a regionally-owned company, would focus more on being a referee who oversees all the operations of their partner operators.

This proposal is intended by Djoko to minimize the potential for Transjakarta bus accidents that often occur some time ago.

"The Transjakarta BUMD should not have to be the operator, but rather function as a service arbiter who oversees all the requirements and rules of the game that have been set," Djoko said to reporters, Monday, December 13.

In supervising the rules of the game, Djoko said that Transjakarta must be fair and disciplined in applying the existing rules and requirements to operators as their partners.

If Transjakarta becomes an operator as a player, according to Djoko, it is not impossible that the supervision and rules of the game will have double standards which could be unfair in supervising these operators.

"On the one hand, Transjakarta is the supervisor and enforcer of service rules. Meanwhile, on the other hand, Transjakarta is an operator who has to make a profit, which sometimes threatens to put itself in the position of an operator, by providing more benefits and looser regulations," said Djoko. other operators are more pressed on discipline to the minimum. Furthermore, Djoko assesses that Transjakarta as an operator also makes their work concentration as referees dissipate because they have to divide their focus in two.
