JAKARTA - Former senior investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) who has now become the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) of the National Police, Novel Baswedan believes his experience of catching corruptors will make corruption prevention as mandated by the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo more effective.
This belief arises because Novel and dozens of former KPK employees who are now ASN in the Bhayangkara Corps already have experience and are familiar with the ins and outs and modes of corruption.
"Many of my friends and I already have a lot of track records related to taking action. So, it is hoped that when we are given a role for prevention, it will also have an impact beyond ordinary prevention," Novel said as quoted from the YouTube account belonging to the former Chairperson of the Employee Forum. KPK, Yudi Purnomo on Monday, December 13.
"It means (we, ed) people who already know the ins and outs of acts of corruption, people who already understand the details, and how the mafia works in groups, as well as the modus operandi of corruption," he added.
Novel does not deny that so far, prosecution of corruption perpetrators often has a deterrent effect on the community. However, with his abilities and dozens of colleagues, he believes that prevention efforts will be stronger.
"Indeed, the action is the most effective and visible to the public because it can make people afraid of doing corruption, then it can be part of prevention. But when the opportunity is in prevention, I see that prevention can be strengthened," he said. Complementing Novel's statement, Yudi Purnomo also said that taking preventive steps is actually something that is usually done even though they were previously engaged in the field of cracking down on acts of corruption.
"I think working in the field of prosecution and prevention is the same. In the law it is also clear that eradicating corruption is an effort to prevent or take action against corruption cases," he said.
It's just that later they will have the task of making improvements to the system and individuals so that no one else wants to be corrupt. "Meanwhile, if the action is taken so that people are afraid of corruption," said Yudi.
"Indeed, our work is invisible but the results will be seen. For example, the social assistance is appropriate, then the national recovery fund is not corrupted, then the national strategic project is appropriate, effective and efficient," he said.
Previously reported, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo appointed Novel Baswedan and 43 former employees of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Thursday, December 9, to coincide with World Anti-Corruption Day (Hakordia) 2021.
With Novel Baswedan and his friends officially becoming National Police ASN, they are expected to strengthen the Bhayangkara Corps, especially in the field of preventing corruption. They were placed in the Corruption Crime Unit (Satker) under the direct control of Listyo Sigit.
