Central Java Deputy Governor: Prosperous Village Program Can Reduce Poverty

SEMARANG - Deputy Governor of Central Java Taj Yasin Maimoen said the Prosperous Village Program initiated by the Women's Organizational Cooperation Agency (BKOW) could reduce the poverty rate which is still high in the area.

"The Prosperous Village Program is very appropriate to reduce the number of poor people in Central Java, especially in areas with extreme poverty levels," he said in Semarang, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 8.

The Deputy Governor explained that the Prosperous Village Program included conducting economic training and business skills for women's groups at the village level.

"A village that can fulfill basic infrastructure and can prosper its people. The program, which aims to create a prosperous and independent village, has been a BKOW program since the last three years, but it will only be realized in 2021," he said.

In addition, the Central Java Provincial Government also carries out various community empowerment activities by providing assistance to children who have lost their parents due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as cooperating with the Central Java Baznas to help restore uninhabitable houses, as well as training in entrepreneurial skills.

"With the Prosperous Village Program initiated by BKOW, we hope that it will not take long to eradicate poor villages in extreme poor areas in Central Java," he said.

The Central Java Provincial Government, continued the Deputy Governor, received an order from Vice President Maruf Amin to tackle extreme poverty in five regions in the local province.

"The five regions are Pemalang, Banyumas, Banjarnegara, Brebes, and Kebumen regencies," said Taj Yasin.
