20 Hectares Of Land In Supiturang Village Lumajang Damaged By Abu Semeru

LUMAJANG - The increased activity of Mount Semeru by releasing hot clouds on December 4, 2021 caused 20 hectares of agricultural land in Supiturang Village, Lumajang Regency, East Java, to be damaged by volcanic material. Supiturang Village Head Nurul Yaqin Pribadi in Lumajang Regency, Wednesday said that of the total area 57 hectares of agricultural land in the area, 20 hectares of land destroyed by hot avalanche clouds (APG) and volcanic materials. Nurul explained, before the eruption of Mount Semeru occurred, in the rice fields in Sumbersari Hamlet, Supiturang Village, Pronojiwo District, the Umbulan River flowed which only had a width of 1.5 meters. However, due to the brunt of the lava flood and volcanic material when Mount Semeru erupted, the river is no longer visible. Volcanic material causes lava flows with a width of up to hundreds of meters. "There is a river, but it is not wide, only about 1.5 meters. It is the Umbulan River. After the lava flows, it becomes large, its width now reaches hundreds of meters," he said.

\Nurul said that the 20 hectares of damaged agricultural land all had land certificates. There are approximately 50 people who own the area. In the future, the land owners want to continue to be able to manage volcanic material on former agricultural land. "In the future, when it is cold, it will be managed by the community. That is their wish, so that they can get results or there is a replacement from what was originally agricultural land," He said. Currently, the Supiturang Village Government is still continuing to collect data regarding the impact of the damage caused by the eruption of Mount Semeru. Data collection will be carried out from house to house, including at refugee camps. Mount Semeru emitted hot clouds on December 4, 2021, which led to Besuk Kobokan, Pronojiwo District, Lumajang Regency, at approximately 15.20 WIB.
