Social Minister Orders His Staff To Build Social Barns In Disaster-Prone Areas

SINTANG - Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini asked his staff to build social granaries in disaster-prone areas, including in the south of Java Island.

"We don't want aftershocks to occur. However, if that happens, people whose access is cut off will not starve," said Tri Rismaharini, while reviewing the social barns at the Secretariat of the Agency for Inter-Regional Cooperation (BKAD), in the Tebelian District, Sintang, West Kalimantan. , Tuesday, December 7th.

Risma said that the potential for disasters does not only pose a risk of flooding such as flash floods, landslides, extreme weather or drought. However, there are also other disasters such as volcanic eruptions or eruptions and also cracks in the ground as happened at Pelabuhan Ratu Sukabumi.

According to the Minister of Social Affairs, technical implementing units (UPT), namely the offices belonging to the Ministry of Social Affairs in all corners of the country, have the task of being the providers, so that assistance will be mobilized more quickly to disaster points, thus, disaster-affected communities will receive assistance more quickly.

"The South Coast of Java Island is one of the concerns, because it refers to the prediction of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) that high waves will occur," explained Risma.

Risma said that the social granary does not only contain logistical needs, food, but also some necessities that support the continuity of the social life of the disaster-affected community.

When there was a disaster in Sintang, for example, there had been up to a month and a half in an emergency because of a blackout.

"So the social granary does not only contain food ingredients. But it can be in the form of generators, fuel, rubber boats, water purifiers, water pumps, tents, as well as basic necessities," he said.

In addition, Risma also said that the establishment of social granaries would depend on geographical conditions and regional needs. Therefore, the approach is not administrative but rather geographical.

During a visit to Sintang, West Kalimantan, Risma, accompanied by the Regent of Sintang, Jarot Winarno, also checked the readiness of social granaries in Temunak District, he also checked the assistance that had been given to overcome the effects of flooding.

The arrival of a number of ministers to Sintang Regency is also part of a series of visits by President Joko Widodo, which is scheduled for Wednesday, December 8.
