Moeldoko Explains The Government's Reason For Canceling Level 3 PPKM Simultaneously During Christmas And New Year

JAKARTA - Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko explained the government's reason for canceling the plan to implement PPKM Level 3 simultaneously in all regions during the Christmas and New Year periods.

Moeldoko explained, the decision to cancel this was an effort by President Joko Widodo in the form of gas and brakes for handling COVID-19. This gas and brake policy must also be adjusted dynamically.

"The policy of stepping on the gas and pulling the brakes should ideally be adjusted to the latest developments in COVID19 data. For this reason, gas and brakes must be carried out dynamically in accordance with the developments of COVID19 in the last days," said Moeldoko in his statement, Tuesday, December 7.

Currently, Moeldoko continued, the government has decided to continue to follow the assessment of the pandemic situation according to the current one in the face of the Christmas and New Year holidays. However, there are some tightening.

This decision is based on the achievement of dose 1 vaccination in Java-Bali which has reached 76 percent and dose 2 which is close to 56 percent. Vaccination for the elderly continues to be boosted until it reaches 64 and 42 percent for doses 1 and 2 in Java and Bali.

"For public crowd events, a maximum of 50 people is allowed, sporting events cannot be without spectators, and the operation of shopping centers, restaurants and cinemas is also limited to 75 percent," explained Moeldoko.

Even though PPKM Level 3 is canceled in all regions during Christmas and New Year, the government will still implement a number of restrictions. In addition, long-distance travelers are still required to show a negative COVID-19 test result, either through PCR or antigen.

"So the President on the one hand provides leniency, but on the other hand emphasizes health protocols," he added.
