Potentially Heavy Rain Accompanied By Lightning And Rob Floods, Communities In Coastal North Maluku Asked To Be Alert

TERNATE - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Sultan Baabullah Ternate appealed to people in North Maluku (Malut), especially those living on the coast to be aware of the potential for tidal flooding.

"We have issued an early warning for extreme weather in North Maluku Province, especially for the community and related agencies to be aware of the potential for tidal flooding in the coastal areas of North Maluku," said BMKG Weather Forecaster Sultan Baabullah Ternate, Satria Kridha Nugraha in Ternate, Tuesday, December 7.

In addition, the Malut region has the potential to experience moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds at 03.00 WIT in the Jailolo, Sessionoli, Sofifi areas and can spread to Ternate, Tidore and surrounding areas and this condition is expected to continue until noon.

Meanwhile, the area is generally cloudy with the potential for light rain in the surrounding areas of Jailolo, Ternate, Tidore, Sofifi and Maba and generally light rain with the potential for moderate rain in the surrounding areas of Morotai, Jailolo, Ternate, Tidore, Sofifi and Labuha.

Satria stated that early wave warnings had been conveyed, especially the potential for high waves reaching more than 2.5 meters in the Ternate-Batangdua-Bitung waters, Loloda Waters, Morotai Waters, Gebe Waters, Halmahera Sea, East Halmahera waters reaching up to 4 meters. The rainfall that hit the Malut region was caused by the eddy circulation, due to low pressure in the northern region of North Maluku and the Eddy circulation in the southern region of North Maluku, thus forming a convergence pattern in the North Maluku region.

This condition has an impact on increasing rainfall in the North Maluku region, the weather is generally cloudy with the potential for moderate to heavy rain in the morning, afternoon, evening and early morning.

Meanwhile, residents in Ternate City, who fled to refugee camps due to the impact of the tidal wave that hit this area, increased from 375 people to 582 people now spread over three points.

The Mayor of Ternate, M. Tauhid Soleman said residents affected by the sea waves had been evacuated to a safe location. Currently, the local BPBD team is still collecting data on the amount of damage caused by this natural phenomenon. This was reported by Antara.
