Buses Often Crash, Deputy Governor Of DKI Riza Considers It Not Easy To Be A Transjakarta Driver

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria assesses that it is not easy to become a TransJakarta driver because it requires high concentration, accuracy and vigilance.

"This is not an easy job. Driving a TransJakarta bus, the route is straight, there are barriers, it requires high concentration. So, don't think that driving a bus is an easy job," said Riza at the Jakarta City Hall, quoted by Antara, Monday, December 6th.

Riza said he was concerned about the five previous accidents at least in the last 40 days. Then, two accidents involving the TransJakarta service again occurred on Monday, December 6th.

The two accidents occurred in the Pramuka area, East Jakarta and the second in the Puri Beta 2 area, Ciledug, Tangerang City, Banten.

Head of Sub-Directorate for Gakkum Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya AKBP Argo Wiyono said that the TransJakarta bus accident at Puri Beta occurred because the driver forgot to apply the handbrake so the bus ran by itself and hit a fence on an empty land.

Due to the incident, the TransJakarta bus Route 13A Puri Beta - Blok M suffered damage to the front glass, cracked, the front bumper was broken and damaged.

The driver tried to catch the oncoming bus. However, it was too late and the bus hit a mound and a wall.

Meanwhile, the accident on Jalan Pramuka was caused by a molen truck in front of a TransJakarta bus that suddenly changed lanes.

The TransJakarta bus driver was surprised and swerved to the right, hitting the busway separator.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is still conducting a thorough evaluation and audit with the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT).

"Of course we are very concerned, there have been several accidents related to TransJakarta. Hopefully we will carry out a joint evaluation so that in the future there will be no more accidents," he said.
