Makassar Harbormaster Urges Fishermen To Beware Of Extreme Weather

MAKASSAR - Head of the Makassar Main Harbormaster Office, Ahmad Wahid, appealed to fishermen whose boat capacity is below 7 Gross Tons (GT), as well as managers of inter-island crossings to be aware of extreme weather.

This was stated by Ahmad in Makassar, Monday, responding to the conditions of heavy rainfall in the last two days in Makassar and its surroundings.

He said, for shipping at sea, both fishermen and passenger ship crews must always prioritize safety in accordance with the SOP that has been socialized by the Makassar Main Harbormaster and related partners.

According to Ahmad Wahiid, until now the party is still monitoring information from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Region IV regarding bad or extreme weather in the field.

If deemed necessary, his party will issue a warning letter to temporarily stop shipping and fishing activities.

There is also a weather forecast based on data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Region IV Makassar, it is known that from morning to afternoon heavy rain conditions, humidity levels are 80 percent and air temperatures are 29-30 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the wind is blowing to the west with a speed of 30-40 kilometers per hour. However, towards the evening until the early hours of the morning, moderate to light rain is predicted, with the wind speed remaining the same.

Regarding shipping activities towards the end of 2021, the Head of Dharma Lautan Utama Makassar Branch, Budiono said that until now it was still running in normal conditions, although rainfall had started to increase.

"Alhamdulillah, shipping activities for loading and unloading goods and passenger transportation are still running normally," he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, December 6.
