The Village Head of Mandar Village, Dwi Sasongko, said that the latest tidal flood occurred on Sunday, December 5 at around 21.30 WIB. The overflow of sea water entered the settlement and inundated approximately 6 RTs in the local area.

"Probably not only in Mandar, but also in the Kepatihan and Lateng villages. In Mandar there are 6 RTs that are submerged. The water level reaches 60 centimeters," said Dwi as he is familiarly known, Monday, December 6.

It took 2 hours for the water to recede. As a result of the flood, many residents' furniture was submerged. As a result, when the flood occurred, people were busy saving some of their furniture.

"The water has been stagnant for a long time. It takes about two hours for the water to recede," he said.

According to Dwi, the event is an annual phenomenon. Counted, this year the tidal flood has occurred twice.

Temporary residents can only surrender. Because apart from the overflow of sea water, this condition is exacerbated by local conditions. Where the sea level is slightly higher than the land level in settlements.

"This is the second time experiencing tidal flooding, this second time is the worst that has submerged residents' settlements. According to the predictions of the fishermen here tonight, it looks like it will happen again. Residents can only surrender. Luckily when the tidal wave occurred the weather was not raining, when the flood was added it rained. conditions that occur could be more severe, "said Dwi.

Meanwhile, the Banyuwangi BMKG forecaster, Yustoto Windiarto, explained that this December is indeed vulnerable to tidal flooding.

This is because the new moon phase coincides with perigee (the closest distance from the moon to the earth). This condition triggers a more significant or higher increase in maximum sea tides.

"If the tidal flood coincides with high waves, it will certainly have an impact on areas near the coast," he said.

It is estimated that this condition will last until December 9. Of course, coastal communities are expected to remain vigilant and ready to anticipate the impact of the tidal wave.

"This phase will last quite a while, so the public must be aware of the effects of tidal flooding," continued Yustoto.
