Successfully Expanding Fire Range, Russia Calls Kornet Anti-Tank Missiles Can Be Installed In Various Combat Vehicles

JAKARTA - The Russian military continues to improve its military capabilities, including the capability of the anti-tank missile system weaponry owned by one of the superpowers.

Recently, The High Precision Weapons Company (part of the state technology company Rostec) has adapted the Kornet-EM anti-tank missile system for the chassis of various types of vehicles, said the company's Deputy CEO Sergey Mikhailov.

"We can say the Kornet-EM has become a universal anti-tank missile system, it has been adapted for any wheeled or chain wheel chassis, with the appropriate lift capacity," explained Mikhailov, citing TASS 1 December.

"Therefore, this capability upgrade can fully meet the requirements for anti-tank weapons," he continued on the sidelines of the EDEX 2021 international defense exhibition in Egypt.

In a basic modification, the Kornet-EM anti-tank missile system is mounted on two telescopic pylons that carry four missiles each, Mikhailov explained.

"The Kornet-EM has a flexible structure and can be mounted on one or two pylons. In fact any modern vehicle can carry a Kornet, the inclusion of weapons in military units increases the unit's ability to strike all types of targets with high accuracy," said Mikhailov.

Also, the Kornet-EM anti-tank missile system provided in its automatic launch configuration has high precision, he added.

To note, the Kornet-EM anti-tank missile system is designed to attack tanks and other armored targets, including vehicles equipped with reactive armor.

The missiles in this anti-tank system are directed by laser beams. In addition, the firing range of the Kornet-EM anti-tank missile system has been extended to 8 km while the previous version had a firing range of 5.5 km.

Separately, Director of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Dmitry Shugayev said Russia had received several requests about the potential delivery of the self-propelled Kornet-EM system, based on the Tigr armored vehicle (manufactured by the Russian Military Industrial Company) to foreign customers.
