Thousands Of Tangerang Workers Take To The Streets Again, Want Minimum Wage To Increase By 10 Percent

JAKARTA - Thousands of workers from various elements throughout Tangerang Raya again held demonstrations and convoys to demand an increase in the 2022 city/district minimum wage (UMK) in front of the Cikupa Mas industrial area.

Monday, December 6, workers held a demonstration to protest the decision of the Governor of Banten Wahidin Halim Number 561/Kep.282-Huk/2021 regarding the UMK Banten Province 2022.

"We demand to revoke the Banten Governor's Decree Number 561/Kep.282-Huk/2021 regarding the Banten City/Regency Minimum Wage, we ask for a 10 percent wage increase in 2022, apply UMSK in 2022, provide Social Security for workers and the people and create a regional regulation that regulates the welfare of Banten workers," said one of the labor coordinators in his speech in Tangerang, as quoted from Antara.

From observations in the field, the mass of workers in Tangerang Raya had gathered since 08.00 WIB. The majority of them from the Tangerang Regency area gathered to wait for colleagues from other unions. Then, after that, it is planned to move together towards the Banten Province Central Government Area (KP3B) in Serang City.

This workers' action was the second time after previously carrying out an action on Thursday (28/10) and continued on Tuesday (23/11).

Like the previous period of action, the mass workers' demonstrations will demand the rejection of cheap wages in 2022. They also urge Governor Wahidin Halim to approve the UMK and UMSK in accordance with the recommendations of the regent/mayor regarding a 10 percent increase and provide social security for workers and the people.

Meanwhile, police officers from the Tangerang Police, Banten Police were seen guarding and securing the labor action at several road points, including the Cikupa Mas industrial area, the intersection of the Kedaton Pasarkemis area and others.

"We, the Tangerang Police, continue to provide services to the workers to carry out their actions. We are trying to make traffic flow well, from the Polda, both Brimob and Sabhara," said Tangerang Police Chief, Pol Kombes Wahyu Sri Bintoro.

In addition, he said, in the security activity, the Tangerang Polreata diverted the flow of vehicle traffic from the Jakarta-directed toll road and the Serang toll road heading to Tangerang in order to avoid the accumulation of vehicles or congestion.

"We are diverting traffic flow to the demonstration location, such as from the Cikup Perboden market, there is no direction to Kemis Market, only one direction to Cikupa Market, Tangerang," he said.

He appealed to people who do not have a travel interest not to carry out travel activities. Because there are several points of mass concentration which of course will hinder the journey.

"And what if you really have to travel, to avoid points, among others, Cikupa Mas, the Olek Industry area and the Citra housing fork," he said.
