The Last 40 Days Happened 5 Transjakarta Bus Accidents, Management Must Evaluate

JAKARTA - Urban and transportation observer Yayat Supriatna urges an evaluation of the management of Transjakarta following five accidents that occurred in the last 40 days.

"If there are accidents three times in a row within a month, it must be evaluated," said Yayat when contacted in Jakarta, Friday, December 3.

The observer from Trisakti University assessed that management should target zero accidents after the evaluation. Moreover, the Transjakarta accident involves human life because it is a mass transportation.

Not only an evaluation from management, Yayat also encourages a thorough inspection of the crew or bus drivers and bus fleets regarding the feasibility.

He added, human error is one of the factors that often causes accidents.

As for the inspection of the bus crew, it concerns their health and for the inspection of the bus fleet, if they are over five years old, routine maintenance must be carried out.

"Health problems affect how he drives the vehicle, then checks again whether the vehicle is roadworthy or not. If the vehicle is over five years old, routine maintenance must be carried out," he said.

In a period of 40 days there were at least five accidents, namely in Cawang, East Jakarta, which left two people dead, namely the driver and passenger of the Transjakarta bus.

Apart from Cawang, there was also a single accident in Senen, Gandaria and on Thursday, December 2 in front of the Cililitan Wholesale Center (PGC). On this Friday, a single TransJakarta bus accident occurred in front of Ratu Plaza, Jl Sudirman, Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Head of Traffic Section of Polda Metro Jaya Commissioner Eko Setio Budi explained that there were no fatalities or injuries in the accident.

"The driver lacked concentration in driving, aka strayed, so that 'off control' occurred. Only the separator was damaged, there were no casualties," said Eko.

Eko explained that the cause of the accident was that the driver did not concentrate on driving, so the bus left the lane and hit the concrete of the Transjakarta separator.

Based on the chronology, the TransJakarta bus with NKRB B7277 TGC with STNK in the name of PT Mayasari Bakti drove from south to north on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman.

Arriving in front of the Ratu Plaza Building, the driver with the initials DS was suspected of not being careful enough that the bus turned left and hit the lane barrier or busway separator, causing damage to the bus including the front and bottom of the bus.

Regarding the series of accidents, Commission B of the DKI Jakarta DPRD has scheduled to summon the TransJakarta management regarding the accident that has happened to the capital's public transportation fleet.

"We have an agenda, so Monday afternoon we will call TransJakarta to explain," said Chairman of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Abdul Aziz.
