Surabaya City Government Holds Market Operations And Supervises Cooking Oil Distribution

SURABAYA - The Surabaya City Government held market operations and supervised the distribution of packaged and bulk cooking oil following the increase in commodity prices in the past month.

"To ensure smooth distribution, we have prepared a market operation scheme in 31 sub-districts and supervision of cooking oil distributors through the Trade Office (Disdag)," said Deputy Mayor of Surabaya Armuji when visiting one of the cooking oil distributors in the SIER industrial area, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 1st.

According to him, the Surabaya City Government is currently coordinating with a number of parties regarding the increase in cooking oil prices before the end of 2021.

It is known that global conditions are currently experiencing a decline in the COVID-19 pandemic and bad weather. This caused the CIF Rotterdam crude palm oil (CPO) price movement as of September 2021 to reach USD 1,235 per tonne compared to August at USD 1,226 per tonne.

The highest retail price (HET) of packaged cooking oil regulated in the Minister of Trade Regulation should be around Rp. 11,000 per liter, but in recent times the price has increased to Rp. 14,000 to Rp. 19,000 per liter.

Armuji said that the increase in cooking oil prices caused an increase in a number of other commodities, such as food.

In addition, Armuji also admitted that he had received complaints from women in Surabaya regarding the increase in cooking oil which had been going on for a month.

"Women are the most dizzy when cooking oil prices go up, indeed the global condition of raw material prices goes up. But we have to take steps," said Armuji.

He emphasized that the Surabaya City Government will take firm steps if there are parties who take advantage of the rising cooking oil price this time.
