JAKARTA - A young man with a battered knife was attacked by a mob because he was caught stealing the victim's cellphone on Jalan Raya Bekasi, Cakung District, East Jakarta. Residents ganged up on the perpetrators because they were angry with the perpetrators' actions.

In the action, the perpetrator is not alone. He strangled along with a friend who had escaped the pursuit of residents. However, the escape of the perpetrators did not go as smoothly as he hoped. The perpetrator was finally arrested by the Cakung Police, who had handled the case.

"Last night, Monday, November 29, at around 22.45 WIB, there was a cell phone robbery belonging to a motorcyclist. The victim was playing with a cellphone on a motorcycle. Two perpetrators saw and came to the victim while brandishing a sickle to ask for the cellphone," said Cakung Sector Police Chief Kompol Satria to reporters, Tuesday 30 November.

After getting their target item, the two perpetrators fled. While the victim shouted at the two perpetrators while giving chase.

The scene is still very lively. As a result, motorists passing by the area gave chase and managed to catch the culprit. Meanwhile, his friend managed to escape from the residents' siege.

The perpetrators who were caught were immediately targeted by the masses. The perpetrator suffered a number of injuries until fresh blood continued to splatter on the asphalt from the wounds on his body.

"One person was arrested by residents, another person fled. The victim and residents contacted the Cakung Police. We went to the crime scene and secured the battered perpetrator from the tantrums of the masses," he said.

Furthermore, the perpetrators were arrested and developed to pursue the perpetrators who had escaped from the residents' ambush.

"Based on information, we managed to catch the perpetrators who escaped. So a total of two perpetrators were arrested, both with the initials RI (17) and RP (17)," he said.

The incident was recorded by residents using an amateur camera. Seen, the perpetrator was covered in blood all over his body. The perpetrators also lay helpless as a result of being beaten by the masses.

"We confiscated evidence of sickles, cellphones and motorbikes from the hands of the two perpetrators. The two perpetrators were charged with Article 368 of the Criminal Code. The case is still being handled by the Cakung Police," he said.
