Social Minister Risma Wants To Create A Social Barn For Disaster Victims In Garut

GARUT - Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini wants to create a social granary that functions to prepare and facilitate the distribution of aid to residents affected by natural disasters in Garut Regency, West Java.

"We will build a kind of barn, we call it a social barn, there are kitchen utensils and so on to meet our needs," said Risma during her working visit to directly inspect areas affected by flash floods in Sukawening District, Garut Regency, quoted by Antara, Monday, November 29.

Social Minister Risma said that social granaries had been implemented in other areas hit by natural disasters and the results were effective in helping people affected by disasters.

According to him, the Garut area needs to create a social granary that will provide convenience in distributing aid amid fears of a disaster occurring during the rainy season.

"It (social barn) can be used directly, we don't need to send it from outside because sending it from outside is too high a risk," said Risma.

Regarding when Garut can build a social granary, said Risma, it depends on the readiness of the local government to know the conditions of its own area.

"It will depend on the speed here, because actually we are not difficult," said the former mayor of Surabaya.

Social Minister Risma said that social granaries will be very much needed for people affected by natural disasters, especially facing the rainy season, which will peak until March 2022.

The Ministry of Social Affairs, he continued, will fully cover all the needs in the social granary, if the goods needed are exhausted, they will be provided back immediately.

"I said that later we will help to fill the social granary with the equipment," said Risma.

Meanwhile, Garut Deputy Regent Helmi Budiman said the proposal was to build a social barn for fear of another natural disaster occurring in the rainy season, which peaks until March 2022.

He explained that the social granary will be provided by the Ministry of Social Affairs, which will not only provide food and drinks, but also other necessities such as household utensils including blankets and other necessities.

"Later the contents will come directly from the Ministry of Social Affairs," he said.

The flash flood disaster occurred on Saturday, November 27 afternoon, causing damage to houses, and as many as 60 people had to evacuate in Sukawening District, and 175 people in Karangtengah District.
