DEPOK - According to Andy Yentriyani, Chair of Komnas Perempuan, sexual violence against women on campus or female students is like an iceberg phenomenon. What looks a little but underneath is very much.

"Why is it called an iceberg phenomenon, because so many for various reasons do not report what they experienced. The reason is shame, or it will tarnish the educational institution where they study. Even though if you want to solve this problem, this problem must be resolved legally. It takes courage to uncover this issue," said Andy Yentriyani when met at the National Commission for Women's Committee meeting recently.

Today's sexual violence, Andy said, is also growing along with advances in information and communication technology. Sexual harassment also occurs in cyberspace. "Sexual harassment also happens on the internet. This kind of thing didn't exist 20 years ago. It's only in the current era that sexual harassment in the internet realm is happening," he said.

There is an ITE Law that can ensnare perpetrators of sexual harassment via the internet. In addition, there is also the Law on Pornography and Pornoaction. These two laws are often used by law enforcement in arresting perpetrators of sexual harassment in cyberspace. "The number of sexual violence continues to increase, Komnas Perempuan data shows that compared to 2019 the data in 2020 rose 18 percent," said Andy.

Even though there is an ITE Law and a Porography Law, according to Andy, this is actually still lacking. "Currently we do not have a comprehensive legal umbrella. For that, if we remember the tragedy of 98, one of the main recommendations for us was issued by the joint fact-finding team made by the government which involved many elements," said Andy.

He emphasized the need for reform of the criminal law, especially in the case of rape. "It is necessary to revamp the criminal law, especially in cases of rape. The Draft Criminal Code is being revised. The Criminal Code has not changed until now, right, so it is still in the process of protracted discussion. Hopefully the discussion can be completed quickly," hoped Andy Yentriyani, Chair of Komnas Perempuan.
