Rais Aam Asks To Speed Up, The Committee Is Still Waiting For The PBNU's Decision On The NU Conference Schedule

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Committee for the 34th NU Congress, KH M Imam Aziz, emphasized that his party was still waiting for a decision from the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) as the organizer of the congress regarding the certainty of the schedule for the highest NU deliberation forum.

"We, the committee, are still waiting for the PBNU's decision," Imam said in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Friday, November 26.

Imam said the committee was ready to implement the decisions made by PBNU. "The congress committee is ready to implement the PBNU's decision," he said.

Originally, the 34th NU Congress was held in Lampung on 23-25 December 2021. However, the schedule was hindered by the government's policy status regarding the implementation of level 3 community activity restrictions (PPKM) on 24 December 2021 to 2 January 2022.

The PPKM policy on the Christmas and New Year holidays has an impact on travel rules and organizing events that involve many people.

Meanwhile, the decision of the National Conference (Munas) and the NU Grand Conference (Konbes) to be held on September 25-26 2021 confirmed that holding the congress would comply with the decisions of the COVID-19 Task Force (Satgas) at the national and local levels.

"According to the decision of the National Conference, the holding of the congress must comply with the directives/decisions of the COVID-19 Task Force, both nationally and regionally," said Imam.

Imam explained that the committee had reported the progress of preparations for holding the 34th congress so far to PBNU.

This was conveyed as consideration for determining the schedule for holding the congress which marked the end of the first 100 years and the beginning of the second 100 years of NU.

As previously reported, the Chairman of the Nadhlatul Ulama Executive Board, Saifullah Yusuf alias Gus Ipul, said that Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar issued a warrant regarding the NU Congress. In the letter, Rais Aam ordered the committee to prepare to hold the 34th NU Congress on December 17, 2021.

Gus Ipul stated that this order became the basis and footing for PBNU through the steering committee and the executive committee to accelerate the implementation of the congress from a previously determined date.

"All parties must comply with Rais Aam's decision as PBNU's highest command holder," said Gus Ipul in a written statement in Jakarta, Friday, November 26.

He revealed, Rais Aam's warrant did not appear suddenly, but there were causes and events that preceded it.

“This warrant has a background, it's not conclusive. That's why I said that PBNU was not doing well," said Gus Ipul.

Gus Ipul explained that before the order was made, there had been a meeting schedule to address the status of the implementation of Level III community activity restrictions (PPKM) for the period from December 24, 2021 to January 2, 2022, nationally.

This was done considering that the 34th NU Congress was previously scheduled to take place on 23-25 December 2021 in Lampung.
