Dozens Of Santri In Sampit Suspected Of Food Poisoning Donations By Residents

SAMPIT - Dozens of students from the Darul Amin Sampit Islamic Boarding School, East Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan are suspected of being poisoned after eating food they received from a donation from a resident.

"The number of students who received the packaged rice was around 100 people. They experienced nausea and vomiting. There were around 30 students whose condition was quite severe," said the head of the Darul Amin Islamic Boarding School, Ustadz H Akhmad Rayyan Zuhdi Abrar, who also attended escorted his students to Dr. Murjani Sampit Hospital, quoted by Antara, Friday, November 26.

Rayyan said, initially their students performed Friday prayers at the Nur Alif Mosque. The location of this mosque is not far from the Islamic boarding school which is located on Jalan HM Arsyad.

When they were on their way back to the hut, they were offered someone a rice wrap which he said was a Friday alms meal. They gladly accepted the gift.

Arriving at the boarding school dormitory, the students then ate the wrapped rice. They did not suspect the slightest about the condition of the rice they were eating.

At first there was nothing strange after they ate the rice. But a few hours later, right after the Asr prayer, some of them complained of dizziness and nausea, then some started vomiting.

The longer the more students are in pain with the same complaint. To avoid unwanted things, the caretaker of the Islamic boarding school decided to flee the santri whose condition was severe enough to get medical treatment at the dr Murjani Hospital.

Meanwhile, some of the students whose condition was not too severe were handled directly at the Islamic boarding school. The caretaker of the boarding school asked for the help of a doctor who then came to the boarding school to help treat the students.

"We brought 11 students to the hospital. These are students whose condition is the most severe. In addition, there are about 19 other students who are being treated at the cottage by a doctor who we deliberately brought to the Islamic boarding school," added Rayyan.

Ustaz H Muhiddin, one of the clerics who took care of the boarding school, heard the confession of some of the students suspected of being poisoned, explaining that some of the packaged rice had a sour taste and smell, presumably because it was stale.

"The rice contains eggs and tempeh. A few hours after eating that, the students began to feel dizzy, nauseous and vomiting," said Muhidin.

Meanwhile, the current condition of the Darul Amin Islamic Boarding School students who are being treated in Islamic boarding schools or treated at dr Murjani Sampit Hospital, is starting to improve. The management of the Islamic boarding school hopes that all students will soon return to health.
