Want To Participate In The G20 Summit, Mayor Muhammad Rudi: We Expect 1 Or 2 Activities In Batam

BATAM - The Batam City Government, Riau Islands, hopes to be chosen to host a series of activities at the G20 Summit which will be held in 2022 in Indonesia.

"Because the initial opening has been decided in Bali. But there are 20 activities at the G20 Summit, we hope that one, it can be two, it can be three activities in Batam," said Batam Mayor Muhammad Rudi in Batam, Antara, Friday, November 26.

Secretary to the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso, claims Rudi, once offered to make Batam a place for the implementation of a series of activities for the G20 Summit.

He is also still waiting for the latest news from the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, who really pays attention to the development of the Free Port Free Trade Area and Special Economic Zones (KPBPB and KEK) in Batam.

The Mayor who also serves as the Head of the Batam KPBPB Concession Board stated that there are several conditions that must be completed and his party is still working on it.

His party has also assured the central government that Batam is ready, and will try to fulfill a number of specified requirements. However, he still refuses detailed information regarding the planned activities of the G20 Summit series which are targeted to be held in Batam.

"The activities can't be submitted yet because we have to meet the criteria, the requirements to carry out the activities.

He said that if there were 20 series of G20 summits, the central government would only have to choose regions in 34 provinces spread across the country. And Batam has a good opportunity, because it has facilities.

"Hopefully all of our facilities will meet. If they meet, we hope to be able to do (host)," said the Mayor.
