JAKARTA - The Jambi Natural Resources Conservation Agency (KSDA) Joint Team with the Berbak Sembilang National Park Office and the UNDP Tiger Project succeeded in relocating a female Sumatran Tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae), Monday 22 November.
This tiger is the result of handling human and wildlife conflicts in Air Hitam Laut Village, Sadu District, East Tanjung Jabung Regency, which happened in the last few months.
This relocation started with a report from the people of Air Hitam Village that the Sumatran Tiger appeared near the residential area. The Jambi BKSDA together with the Berbak Sembilang National Park carried out the expulsion of the Sumatran tiger to stay away from community settlements.
However, after several evictions, the tigers kept coming back and preying on the community's livestock, causing material losses to the community. The Joint Team decided to relocate the Sumatran tiger to the Berbak Sembilang National Park area.
Then the team installed trap cages at two points to evacuate the Sumatran tiger. After the Sumatran tiger entered one of the trap cages, the team immediately relocated the Sumatran tiger to a safer habitat in the Berbak Sembilang National Park area which was far from community settlements.
