Rare Mola-mola Fish Stranded On Penarukan Beach, Buleleng, Bali

BULELENG - The rare Mola-mola fish was found stranded and dead on Penarukan Beach, Singaraja, Buleleng Regency, Bali.

The dead Mola-mola fish were evacuated by residents and drowned using ballast in Penarukan waters. The sinking is done because there is no burial area for marine life around the sea.

"Friends from community groups who were there assisted by our environmental activists did the handling and were drowned in the middle of the sea. Because the fish was heavy and he immediately drowned, there was a ballast and the Mola-mola fish didn't take long to come down," said the Head of the Management Center. Coastal and Marine Resources (BPSPL) Denpasar Permana Yudiarso, Wednesday, November 24.

The cause of the death of the Mola-mola fish is not yet known. Yudiarso suspected that this incident was related to extreme weather.

"We can't explain yet, but it's most likely due to weather conditions," he explained.

According to him, Mola-mola fish usually live in deep waters such as Nusa Penida and northern waters of Buleleng. This fish rarely appears in shallow water.

"For the status of the Mola-mola fish, the government has not determined its protection. But he is the management target of the Ministry of Fisheries, so we will monitor the population of this fish," said Yudiarso.
