MEDAN - The Mayor of Medan, North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution asked the regional apparatus organization (OPD) to finalize the drainage system plan for the Kesawan Old Town area.

"I don't want the Old Town of Kesawan, which is already beautiful, but the drainage system isn't good enough, but it gets smudged by floods," said Bobby Nasution, quoted by Antara, Monday, November 22.

Bobby Nasution appreciates the acceleration of revitalization, but his party wants this step to be followed by the design of the city area that makes a good drainage system.

Moreover, the consultant team for the preparation of the Kesawan Old Town structuring plan delivered a final design presentation last week, which is planned for revitalization by the end of January 2022.

The results of the presentation were submitted to the Directorate General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing for auction, and the arrangement of this area which is rich in historically valuable buildings.

"I hope that the revitalization of the Old Town of Kesawan is followed by proper drainage arrangements. Do not let the water flow be directed to the Deli River, but cause back water when the river water level is high," said Mayor Bobby Nasution.

Meanwhile, the head of the Medan City Bappeda, Benny Iskandar, revealed that the consultant team for the preparation of the Kesawan Old Town planning plan would use an underground drainage canal from the Dutch era.

"The subdrain they are using is a relic from the Dutch era. Then the channels that have been built by the Public Works Service previously built will be interconnected," he explained.

"The drainage canal from the Dutch era will later be optimized to help drain water around the Old Town of Kesawan," said Benny.
