File Declared Complete, Azis Syamsuddin Will Be Tried Soon

JAKARTA - Former Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Azis Syamsuddin will soon be tried in relation to the alleged bribery case handling corruption cases in Central Lampung.

This was done after the investigation team handed over the suspect and evidence to the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) today or Monday, November 22.

"Phase II was carried out, the surrender of the suspect and evidence on behalf of suspect AZ from the investigation team to the prosecutor's team because the case file was declared complete," said Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement Sector Ali Fikri to reporters.

After the submission of the files, the detention of the former deputy chairman of the Golkar Party will be continued by the KPK prosecutor. Azis will be detained for the next 20 days until December 11 at the KPK Rutan Kavling C1.

Furthermore, Ali said that the prosecutor's team would draw up an indictment and hand over his case file with a time limit of 14 working days. "The trial will be held at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court," he said.

For information, Azis was rarely questioned when he was still detained as a suspected briber of former Stepanus Robin Pattuju. During his detention he only carried out two examinations after being detained, including last October. It was previously reported that Azis was named a suspect after he was suspected of giving bribes to Stepanus. This bribe was given by Azis together with the former chairman of the Golkar Party Youth Force (AMPG) Aliza Gunado.

This allegation began in August 2020 when Azis contacted Stepanus to deal with allegations of corruption in Central Lampung regarding the Special Allocation Fund. This case is said to have ensnared him and former chairman of the Golkar Party Youth Force (AMPG) Aliza Gunado.

Receiving the request, Stepanus contacted Maskur Husein to oversee and manage the case, which was later agreed on the condition that Azis and Aliza had to prepare Rp2 billion each. It's just that when Stepanus and Azis were quickly arrested, the realization of the money distribution only reached Rp. 3.1 billion.
