BMKG: Beware Of Extreme Weather In South Java

CILACAP - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to people living in the southern part of Central Java and the central mountains of Central Java to be aware of the potential for extreme weather in the next three days.

"Currently, there are seeds of cyclonic or cyclonic 90S in the Indian Ocean south of West Java which have the potential to cause heavy rains, sometimes accompanied by lightning and strong winds," said Teguh Wardoyo, Head of the BMKG Technician Group at the Cilacap Meteorological Station of Tunggul Wulung, quoted by Antara, Monday, November 22.

He explained that the potential for extreme weather is also influenced by wind vortices or cyclonic circulation in the western waters of Aceh, Anambas waters, and the North Natuna Sea.

In addition, wind confluence or convergence that occurred in the Indian Ocean west of Bengkulu, Lampung waters, Java Sea, southern waters of Sumba, southern Indian Ocean East Nusa Tenggara, North Natuna Sea, Central Kalimantan waters, Tanimbar waters, Sarmi waters, Aru Sea, and Agats Waters.

In addition, the wind deflection (shear) that occurred in the waters of Aceh, the Malacca Strait, the southern part of the Sunda Strait, the southern Indian Ocean of West Java, the Flores Sea, Banggai Bay, Tomini Bay, Gorontalo waters, Sulawesi Sea, Sangihe/Talaud waters, and northern waters Morotai.

"Therefore, we urge people in the southern and mountainous regions of Central Java to be aware of the potential for extreme weather," said Teguh.

Asked about the impact of the 90S cyclonic on the increase in height in the southern sea of West Java to the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Teguh said that so far there has been no early warning of high waves.

However, he said the BMKG did not rule out the possibility of issuing an early warning of high waves in the southern waters of West Java-DIY and the southern Indian Ocean of West Java-DIY in line with the development of the 90S cyclonic.

"What is clear is that due to the presence of these cyclone seeds, the wind speed will increase, so it is possible that the wave height will increase. We will continue to monitor the development of the cyclone seeds. If there are further developments, we will immediately inform the public," said Teguh.
