Gerindra Must Be Mature In Politics, Fahri Hamzah: I'm Not Defending Fadli Zon

JAKARTA - Deputy General Chairperson (Waketum) of the Gelora Party, Fahri Hamzah, responded to the Gerindra Party's 'flickering' for being seen as defending Fadli Zon after being reprimanded by Prabowo Subianto. Prabowo reprimanded Fadli after insinuating President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) about the flood in Sintang, West Kalimantan.

Fahri denied that he defended his fellow deputy chairman of the DPR for the 2014-2019 period. According to him, he is only defending the rights of citizens.

"It should be underlined once again, I am not defending Fadli Zon. What I am defending is our rights as citizens and as voters for our representatives," Fahri told reporters, Friday, November 19.

According to Fahri, his criticism was not directed at one political party, especially Gerindra. But for political parties tainted by feudalism.

"This is not a criticism of one political party, but of all political parties that have been poisoned by the feudalism of the undemocratic party leadership," he said.

Because, said Fahri, the oversight and opposition functions of the DPR are currently not being carried out properly. Oversight of the government is scattered everywhere, while the opposition is strengthening on the streets.

"So this is again, this is not individual, but about the rights of the people, about us as citizens who want to see Senayan function as it should," said Fahri.

"Senayan has taken over the supervisory function which is now scattered around, the function of the opposition which is now spreading on the streets. Senayan should have taken over, Senayan must be able to see this obvious irregularity, and voice it out because it is the will of the voters," he added.

Fahri only hopes that the people's representatives can oversee the current government. However, he said, members of the council are more obedient to the leadership of political parties.

"Because they should be more empowered in guarding the country from now on which seems boring to us. Because they have to obey the leadership and others," said Fahri.

Previously, the deputy governor and spokesman for the Gerindra Party, Habiburokhman, asked Fahri Hamzah to mature in politics.

He said Gerindra Party cadres were always reminded to respect the internal affairs of other parties. According to him, it is maturity and politeness in politics.

"What is more principled is that we must respect the internal affairs of other parties. That is a form of maturity and political manners that were taught to us," said Habiburokhman, Friday, November 19.

He then mentioned Fahri Hamzah, who used to have a dispute with PKS. At that time, according to him, the general chairman of the Gerindra Party, Prabowo Subianto, reminded the cadres not to interfere in these matters.

"When Pak Fahri had an argument with PKS the other day Pak Prabowo warned us not to join in with girls or make comments. Both Pak Fahri and PKS are our close friends," said Habiburokhman.
