Anies Signals He Will Follow Central Government Regarding DKI UMP Increase

JAKARTA - The DKI Provincial Government has not announced an increase in the provincial minimum wage (UMP) in 2022. It is planned that the DKI UMP will be announced tomorrow.

DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswesan signaled that the DKI Provincial Government will comply with the central government's decision regarding the increase in the UMP in 2022.

In this case, the average increase in the provincial minimum wage (UMP) 2022 nationally is 1.09 percent. This provision refers to the formula that applies in Government Regulation PP Number 36 of 2021 concerning Wages.

"I convey that the provisions contained in the PP, and others are provisions that must be implemented," said Anies after meeting workers at DKI City Hall, Thursday, November 18.

Therefore, Anies admitted that his party will make policies that reduce workers' expenses with a number of aid programs. At least, if the increase in the UMP does not match the expectations of the workers, the cost of living can also be reduced.

Anies explained that the assistance facilities provided by the DKI Provincial Government are cheap food, free transportation, and the distribution of Jakarta Smart Cards (KJP) to their children.

"To lower the cost of living, we can help there. So, with workers, Jakarta provides facilities for cheap food, then provides transportation costs that are borne, and KJP for their children," said Anies.

"It is hoped that it will reduce costs. So, even though income has been regulated through the existing PP, hopefully they can save because the cost of living is lower," he continued.

Previously, the Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah ensured the average increase in the 2022 UMP nationally was 1.09 percent.

"The simulation is based on data from BPS, the average minimum wage increase is 1.09 percent, this is the national average," said Ida.

However, Ida explained that the determination of the UMP for each province still needed to wait for the results of the determination from the governor. He said the government had given the governor time to determine and collect the money no later than November 20, 2021.

"UMK is no later than November 30, 2021 and is carried out after of course after the determination of the provincial minimum wage," he said.

This provision is in accordance with law number 11 of 2020 concerning job creation. In addition, the government through the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian has also reminded the Governor regarding this obligation through a circular letter from the Minister of Home Affairs Number 561/6393/SJ regarding the determination of the 2022 annual minimum wage.
