Yogyakarta Kulon Progo Police Chief Calls Juvenile Delinquency Due To Excess Energy

YOGYAKARTA - The Kulon Progo Resort Police, Yogyakarta Special Region, appealed to the public to provide assistance and direct the younger generation in a positive direction to suppress and prevent juvenile delinquency.

Kulon Progo Police Chief AKBP Muharomah Fajarini said that juvenile delinquency was mostly caused by excess energy but not being managed properly. "Thus what comes out is the negative side that has the potential to harm other people," Fajarini said in Kulon Progo, Antara, Thursday, November 18.

He said the Kulon Progo Police had made efforts to prevent juvenile/student delinquency, both those that had already occurred and were in the planning stages.

"We expect the cooperation of all parties to suppress juvenile delinquency in Kulon Progo. Do not let the excess energy of the young generation be used in a negative direction, but must be directed to a positive and creative direction," he said.

In line with the Head of the Resort Police, the Regent of Kulon Progo Sutedjo added, during the pandemic, there may be a lot of juvenile delinquency in Indonesia because almost all schools conduct online learning.

"Because there is a lot of free time in the home environment, which turns out to be rarely used by teenagers for positive things. Not all parents have enough time to directly supervise their children's activities at home because there is a feeling of boredom staying at home all the time," said Sutedjo.

He asked schools to continue to supervise, assist, and coach students to reduce juvenile delinquency. Juvenile delinquency is a shared responsibility, both parents, home environment, teachers, and all parties.

"Let's work together to reduce juvenile delinquency in Kulon Progo. During this pandemic, we are preparing a young generation who is superior, creative, and innovative," he said.
