JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said Indonesia is currently still in a critical phase of economic recovery due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Currently we are in a critical phase of economic recovery. Some countries are recovering faster but most of them are still lagging behind," said Ma'ruf when delivering a virtual keynote speech at the "9th ASEAN Universities International Conference on Islamic Finance" held by UIN Sunan Kalijaga , Yogyakarta quoted by Antara, Wednesday, November 17.

Since the pandemic began in early 2020, according to Ma'ruf Amin, all countries in the world have worked hard to save lives as well as the economy.

Ma'ruf said that the global economic recovery due to the pandemic faced three challenges, namely the gap in vaccine access, energy price inflation, and supply chain disruption.

"Besides these challenges, we are still facing the challenge of climate change which has the potential to disrupt human life," he said.

The global economic recovery, continued Ma'ruf Amin, would not be possible if it was only carried out by some countries without any synergy efforts.

"There must be synergy and collaboration between countries," he said.

The collaboration, emphasized the Vice President, is not only aimed at solving problems but also ensuring the realization of sustainable economic development in the future.

"I also believe that Islamic principles and values such as mutual assistance and mutual assistance can play a role in realizing collaboration in efforts to economic recovery and sustainable development," he said.
