Central Kalimantan Governor Sugianto Sabran Promises Optimal Flood Handling

PALANGKA RAYA - Central Kalimantan Governor Sugianto Sabran promised to deal with flooding in his area quickly and optimally, including in terms of distribution of aid.

"We urge people to be patient. We, the local government, are trying to handle and provide assistance quickly and optimally to the current flood conditions," said Sugianto in Palangka Raya, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, November 16.

During his visit to the flood location, Sugianto had the opportunity to see firsthand the condition of evacuation tents for flood-affected communities in a number of areas in Palangka Raya City, in order to directly ascertain the conditions in locations around the flood and the readiness of residents' evacuation tents.

Sugianto left his office at 00.00 WIB, headed to the Jalan Pelatuk II area and met the Mayor of Palangka Raya, Fairid Nafarin, who was also checking the flood conditions and evacuation of residents.

While carrying out joint checks, the two at the same time coordinated to carry out initial handling efforts, both the readiness of evacuation tents, the readiness of public kitchens, as well as other assistance such as blankets and basic materials for emergency needs.

“Coincidentally, we met the mayor at the refugee camp near the flood site. We are coordinating for initial handling, preparedness to help residents," said Sugianto.

In addition, his party also directed the Central Kalimantan Disaster and Fire Management Agency (BPBPK) to coordinate with regencies/cities in efforts to deal with the impact of the current flood.

"Together, we pray that this flood will recede quickly," he said.

At the location, Sugianto accompanied by the Acting Head of Central Kalimantan BPBPK Erlin Hardi visited residents who were resting and had a dialogue with those who were still awake.

In addition, Sugianto also went to SDN 1 Langkai, to check and ensure the availability of facilities to help residents in the refugee camps which was then continued to the Rambang Harbor area, Riau Street, to check conditions in the Kalimantan Road area and its surroundings.
