JAKARTA - The government is preparing a scenario to anticipate the increase in COVID-19 cases during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria asked the residents of the capital not to celebrate Christmas and New Year's Day by gathering.

"At the beginning of next year and the end of this year, we hope that all Jakarta residents can control themselves by staying at home, no need to go out unless it is very important," said Riza at the DKI DPRD building, Tuesday, November 16.

Even though Jakarta has implemented PPKM Level 1 and the majority of residents in the capital city have been vaccinated against COVID-19, it does not mean that it can underestimate the potential for transmission of the corona virus.

Because, reflecting on the experience of previous long holidays, Indonesia, including Jakarta, has always experienced an increase in cases. Because, many people take advantage of the long holiday period to go out of town to abroad.

"In this greater easing, the potential for people to leave the house is getting bigger, the interaction is higher, the potential for crowds is also getting bigger. So, the potential for spread is also getting bigger, especially entering the end of the year, a long holiday," said Riza.

"People, let's fight together to hold back from leaving the house unless it's very important, even if the easing is increasingly being opened. We hope there will be no waves when in Jakarta and of course throughout Indonesia and the world," he continued.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the government plans to ban New Year celebrations that have the potential to cause large crowds, as an effort to anticipate an increase in cases during Christmas and New Year's momentum.

"On this occasion, in the midst of the increasing number of cases in Europe and several other countries that continue to be high, I again invite all of us not to be selfish and encourage each other so that we can both obey the health protocols that are constantly being advised so that we don't repeat the same. bad experiences in the past due to our negligence," said Luhut.
