Jakarta Flood Claims Now Not Up To Days, Deputy Governor: In Other Areas For Weeks

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria claimed that the floods that submerged Jakarta during the current rainy season did not occur for days.

"Thank God, in Jakarta, we don't have any puddles or floods for days," said Riza at DKI City Hall, Central Jakarta, Monday, November 15.

Riza said he was grateful for this situation. Because, at this time there are areas that have experienced flooding for weeks. Riza's statement refers to the floods in West Kalimantan.

"We see now in areas throughout Indonesia, in this rainy season, many areas are inundated. Floods for days, even weeks," said Riza.

Riza said, this is thanks to a number of flood control programs during the rainy season that have been carried out by the DKI Provincial Government.

These include dredging mud, constructing vertical drainage or infiltration wells, and deploying pumps to suck up water. Meanwhile, the river normalization program is still in the process of land acquisition.

However, Riza admitted that the flood was still inundated. Because, according to him, the Jakarta flood is a classic problem that requires long-term handling.

"Everything is a process, it takes time, so once again flood management cannot be completed in one or two years or five years, it will take a long time," he said.

Therefore, he asked the public to help the DKI Provincial Government by not throwing garbage in any place, and also cleaning up the waterways in their neighborhood.

"All of our communities ask us to help us all by not throwing garbage in its place, cleaning the environment, gutters, sewers, and surrounding areas, and also preparing houses located in areas that have the potential for flooding every year," concluded Riza.
