PA 212 Reunion Not Sure To Get Permit, Polda Metro Has Full Authority

JAKARTA - The Alumni Brotherhood (PA) 212) intends to hold the 212th annual reunion in December. The location itself has not been determined. And most importantly, not necessarily also get permission.

The National Police Headquarters warns of the dangers of a COVID-19 cluster if there is a demonstration so that all parties must be vigilant.

"In principle, the Polda (Metro Jaya) is ready to carry out security and anticipate activities that can cause COVID-19 clusters. Because, in accordance with the government's advice, all parties must be vigilant and maintain the process to minimize the spread of COVID-19," said the Head of the Division. Police Public Relations Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, Saturday 13 November.

Dedi explained that the Polda Metro Jaya will communicate with PA 212 regarding the reunion plan. According to him, there must be a notification letter regarding the reunion activities.

"Later Polda Metro will communicate with the party who will send a letter notifying the activity," he said.

Regarding whether or not the event was permitted, Dedi said that the Metro Police had full authority. Each crowd permit will be assessed (assessment) first.

"That (permit) the regional police who have the authority to assess," added Dedi.

The Head of the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the National Monument Isa Sanuri confirmed that Monas has not been opened to the public. Isa said that his party had not yet received a letter of application for permission to use the iconic Jakarta tourist spot from PA 212.

"There is not yet (a letter from PA 212)," said Isa.

Jakarta Deputy Governor Riza Patria has also asked PA 212 administrators to think twice about the plan to hold a reunion action. The reason is that it is still during the COVID-19 pandemic, so there is the potential for transmission.

"Yes, later we will see, yes, so far we have asked because this is a pandemic period, of course, we hope that all activities that can cause crowds and have the potential to spread, we hope to reconsider. We will reconsider until Jakarta is really safe," said Riza.
