Pertamina Cilacap Refinery Burns, Has A Strategic Role In Supplying 75 Percent Of Fuel For Java

JAKARTA - PT Pertamina Refinery Unit IV Cilacap oil refinery in Central Java experienced a fire, Saturday, November 13 at around 19:00 WIB.

Pertamina International Refinery Corporate Secretary Ifki Sukarya said that his party was currently trying to extinguish the fire.

"Currently, the Pertamina fire brigade team is trying their best to extinguish the fire in the tank area," said Ifki in an electronic message.

The Cilacap refinery, as reported by Antara, is one of six Pertamina refineries. Every day, this processing capacity is capable of producing 270 thousand barrels.

On June 11, 2021, the Cilacap refinery also caught fire. At that time, a fire occurred in one of the tanks containing benzene.

This refinery has about 200 tanks to accommodate crude to be processed, gas and fuel from crude oil processing. The Cilacap refinery is also of strategic value because it supplies 44 percent of the national fuel needs and 75 percent of the fuel needs on the island of Java.

In addition, this refinery is the only refinery in the country that produces asphalt and base oil.

The location of the burnt tank is in Banjaran, Donan Village, not far from the main entrance gate of the RU IV Cilacap Refinery. At this time, firefighters are still trying to extinguish the blaze so that it doesn't get bigger.
