Learning From The Surge In The Second Wave Of COVID, Hospitals In Papua Make Various Improvements

PAPUA - Spokesperson for the Papua COVID-19 Task Force, Dr. Silwanus Sumule, admitted that paramedics and hospitals are still on standby to anticipate the third wave of COVID-19.

Learning from the experience of the second spike in cases that occurred in June-September this year, medical personnel and hospitals are better prepared.

"That has become an experience in handling COVID-19 so that several hospitals have made improvements, including in terms of providing oxygen," Sumule said in Jayapura as quoted by Antara, Saturday, November 13.

Sumule added that every hospital is also making improvements, including the addition of supporting facilities. He hoped that the public would continue to adhere to the health protocols related to COVID-19 even though cases began to decline.

In addition, Sumule appealed to residents to immediately receive the vaccine so that their immune system would increase.

As of last Saturday, the COVID-19 cases in Papua were spread across 11 districts. There were 96 patients undergoing treatment.

Eleven regencies whose citizens have been exposed to COVID-19 are Keerom, Mimika, Biak, Jayapura City, Merauke, Jayapura Regency, Jayawijaya, Asmat, Puncak Jaya, Mappi and Boven Digul District.
