JAKARTA - The Central Jakarta Public Housing and Settlement Area Sub-dept. (PRKP) is revitalizing slum areas in 12 community units (RW) spread across the area.

"This is part of the 'Community Action Plan' (CAP) and 'Collaborative Implementation Program' (CIP) programs initiated by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government," said Head of PRKP Sub-dept. Yaya Mulyarso, quoted by Antara, Friday, November 12.

Yaya said that the program was based on suggestions from the community, especially to overcome the problem of slums, with the target being RWs that were considered slums based on BPS data.

The 12 RWs are spread out among others in Karet Tengsin, Kebon Melati, Menteng, Bungur, Johar Baru, Tanah Tinggi, Utan Panjang and Mangga Dua Selatan.

The revitalization of slum settlements has been regulated in the Governor's Regulation (Pergub) of DKI Jakarta Province Number 90 of 2018 concerning Improving the Quality of Settlements in the context of Structuring Integrated Settlement Areas.

Of the total 98 RWs declared in the CAP and CIP, there are 38 RWs that are included in the 2017-2022 Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMD).

A total of 26 RWs have been revitalized in 2019 and 2020. Meanwhile, 12 RWs are undergoing physical construction this year.

"At the 2021 CIP, there are 12 RWs in 8 urban villages. The progress has been 95 percent running well and smoothly," he said.

He admitted that this program had been halted due to a refocusing of the budget for handling COVID-19.

In the CAP and CIP programs, a number of facilities and infrastructure were repaired, such as road repairs, water channel repairs, RW hall renovations, gate construction, toilet renovations, road signage and convex glass placement.

Yaya has not detailed the budget required for the program, including the source.
