Medan City Government Tightens Supervision Of Tourist Locations To Prevent The Third Wave Of COVID-19

MEDAN - The Medan City Government, North Sumatra has tightened surveillance at tourist sites, especially ahead of the Christmas and New Year 2022 holidays to anticipate the third wave of the spread of COVID-19.

"As we did yesterday, what we are also doing today is checking tourist attractions. When Christmas and New Year are approaching, we will increase it again," said Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution, quoted by Antara, Friday, November 12.

His party is still considering closing tourist attractions and blocking at a number of border points during the 2022 Christmas and New Year holidays.

"Because the most risky thing is traveling, taking vacations. Therefore, what we have to monitor is recreational activities, we will try to reduce activities through closures," he said.

The Medan City Government has also issued a circular for state civil servants (ASN) not to take leave from the end of this year until early 2022, to prevent mobility at the end of the year which could lead to an increase in COVID-19 cases.

"That is clear, yes. It is indeed requested for ASN not to travel," he said.

Bobby Nasution appealed to the public not to overreact to year-end holiday celebrations because until now the COVID-19 pandemic has not ended.

"Still obey the health protocols, namely keep your distance, keep wearing masks, and avoid crowds," he said.
