JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria, claimed that the DKI Provincial Government is serious about preventing and controlling floods in the capital city.

This, said Riza, is evidenced in the procurement of the Water Resources Department program budget which is higher than other regions.

"In principle, DKI Jakarta Province is seriously focused on carrying out flood control prevention programs. We are part of the government which has a high budget for flood control prevention," said Riza at DKI City Hall, Friday, November 12.

Riza explained that a number of flood management programs include river normalization, construction of infiltration wells, Mud Gerebek program, construction of reservoirs, construction of stilling ponds, and the deployment of water pumps when it rains.

Regarding infiltration wells, Riza admitted that this idea was quite effective in accommodating inundation. "So far, if you see, the results of infiltration wells are quite effective. If inundation occurs, it will recede quickly," he said. As for normalization, currently the process of land acquisition in settlements along the river for normalization is still in process. The budget has also been prepared.

He explained that there were 19 plots of land acquisition in Ciliwung River, 151 plots in Rajawati River, 18 plots in Pesanggrahan River, 68 plots in Sunter River, then 20 plots in Pondok Bambu Village.

Furthermore, there are also land acquisitions for 3 fields in Cipinang Muara, 10 plots in Jalan Gceng, 1 plot in Kali Kramat, and 3 other fields which are in the process of deliberation.

"So, the commitment of the DKI Jakarta Province is very large to prevent flood control in DKI Jakarta," said Riza.

"We always increase the existing budget. Indeed, in 2020-2021 there will be a reduction due to refocusing, due to the COVID-19 pandemic there are several activities due to limited funds, they are reduced and continued in the following year," he added.
