KPK Will Follow Up Requests By Luhut To Brush Port Mafia

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will follow up on the request of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan to eradicate the port mafia.

Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement, Ali Fikri, said the first follow-up would be to take preventive measures.

"So related to that, of course, we are trying to do prevention first as part of eradicating corruption," said Ali to reporters, Thursday, November 11.

This prevention, he continued, will be carried out by conducting a study on ports in Indonesia. In this study, the KPK will later map out the modes of corruption in ports.

After conducting a study, Ali said, the KPK would read the incoming complaints, especially those related to the port mafia. Later, if there are complaints that come in, they will be immediately executed with the studies that have been carried out.

"Of course later from the existing reports that part will be studied," he said.

Previously reported, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan asked law enforcement in this case the KPK, the National Police, and the Attorney General's Office to take firm action against the mafia who played in the port. He also hopes that the law enforcement officers will form a task force to eradicate and imprison the mafia that hinders Indonesia from becoming a developed country.

"I beg the KPK and the prosecutor's office, the police, let's form a task force to monitor this. I think it's good to be imprisoned," he said in a webinar.

Luhut admitted that he was furious with the mafia's game. "It's clear that there are various kinds of people like this, I already told Pak Pahala (Deputy for Prevention and Monitoring of the KPK Pahala Nainggolan), let's take this person who has clearly damaged our system, replaced or imprisoned him," he said.
