JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing or PUPR revealed that the Lombok International Airport (BIL) - Mandalika Bypass Road is ready to be inaugurated ahead of the prestigious World Superbike (WSBK) 2021 race event.

Head of the West Nusa Tenggara National Road Implementation Center (BPJN) Reiza Setiawan said the construction of the main road had been completed, with the overall progress of the work reaching 98.6 percent.

"Currently, the finalization stage is being carried out so that this 'bypass' road is ready to be inaugurated in early November 2021 ahead of the World Superbike event on November 19, 2021," said Reiza, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, November 9.

The construction of the BIL–Mandalika Bypass Road consists of 3 work packages with a budget sourced from the 2020-2021 State Budget of Rp705 billion. Package 1 is 4.30 km long with contractor PT Nindya Karya-Bumi Agung (KSO) with a budget of Rp199 billion.

Then Package 2 is 9.70 km long, the contractor is PT Adhi Karya - PT Metro Lestari Utama (KSO) with a budget of Rp353 billion. Furthermore, for Package 3 with a length of 3.36 km, the contractor is PT Yasa Patria Perkasa with a budget of Rp. 152 billion.

"Work on packages 1 and 2 have been completed 100 percent, now they are in the maintenance phase. Phase 3 is currently in the finalization stage with the target of Provisional Hand Over (PHO) on December 3, 2021," he said.

Reiza said that the existence of the bypass road would reduce the travel time from Lombok International Airport to the Mandalika area from 45 minutes to 15 minutes.

"The bypass road is equipped with 2 bridges, 11 'overpasses', and 3 pedestrian bridges (JPOs) which were built to facilitate traffic flow and facilitate access for local residents," he explained.

Previously, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said the construction of the 17.36 km BIL Bypass road would facilitate connectivity from BIL Airport to tourist areas in the Mandalika Super Priority Tourism Destination (DPSP).

In addition, the BIL Bypass Road also supports access to the MotoGP circuit which is also being built in the Mandalika area.

Ahead of the 2022 Moto GP, two major motorcycle racing events will be held this month at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, namely the Asia Talent Cup on 12-14 November 2021 and the World Superbike on 19-21 November 2021.
