Jakarta Starts Traffic Jam Again, Police: Not Until Stuck

JAKARTA - The Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya acknowledged that congestion in Jakarta has been felt after the implementation of PPKM Level 1. The increase in traffic flow has also been recorded as an increase of up to 20 percent.

"From a visual perspective, it's still 15 to 20 percent significant," said Head of Sub-Directorate for Gakkum, Ditlantas, Polda Metro Jaya AKBP Argo Wiyono to reporters, Tuesday, November 9.

But said Argo, the increase in traffic flow is not too significant. The vehicle can still run even though the speed is reduced and the travel time becomes longer.

"It's jammed, but it's not stuck (stopped)," said Argo.

"The speed is also still average, maybe if the travel time is 15 minutes, it will be 20 minutes," he said.

In fact, Argo again emphasized that when compared to before the pandemic period, the current condition is still relatively better. Because, at that time there were traffic jams on almost all roads.

"It's not like it used to be up to 20 kilometers per hour before, there was a term crawling solid, now it's just solid," said Argo.

DKI Jakarta implements Level 1 Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) until 15 November.

A number of rules that apply at level 1 PPKM areas were relaxed, starting from opening 100 percent of malls to cinemas opening at 70 percent capacity.

This rule is contained in the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Number 57 of 2021 concerning PPKM Level 3, Level 2, and Level 1 COVID-19 in the Java-Bali region. In the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs, the central government stipulates all administrative cities and administrative districts in DKI to implement PPKM Level 1.
